PUTRAJAYA, June 25 — Traffic fatalities in days leading up to Hari Raya this year dropped 11 per cent this year compared to 2016, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.
"Our road safety campaign this year has been effective,” Liow told reporters during the Aidilfitri open house at the prime minister’s official residence here today.
"We have managed to reduce road accidents by 11 per cent in the first week compared to the same period last year,” Liow added.
Malaysia has 23 road deaths for every 100,000 people, which is close to the low income nation average of 24.1 deaths for 100,000 people.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak hosted close to 70,000 Malaysians in Putrajaya’s official open house to herald the festivities, held at Najib’s official residence in Seri Perdana here.
