Foreign Ministry says no Malaysians affected in Mecca bomb attack

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — No Malaysian was affected by the suicide bomb blast yesterday near the Grand Mosque in Mecca which resulted in injuries to 11 people, five of them Saudi Arabian security forces personnel, the Foreign Ministry said today.

It said in a statement that it would monitor developments through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah.

"Malaysia strongly condemns the suicide bomb attack in Mecca. This terrorist attack is all the more tragic because it occurred during the month of Ramadan.

"We express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Saudi Arabia and the families of the victims of the attack,” it said.
