PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — Inspections by the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry on Rambutan brand rice found no plastic content or any indigestible element in the product.

The ministry said the inspections were conducted at three Rambutan brand rice processing and packaging factories in Ipoh, Perak; Alor Setar, Kedah; and Kulai, Johor, and all rice samples taken from the factories were proven to be authentic.

According to the ministry, the Chemistry Department had taken several samples at three stages in the factories, namely the unprocessed rice, processed rice and packed rice.

"Based on the inspections, members of the public are advised not to be taken in by allegations of plastic rice under the brand name which went viral on social media,” the ministry said in a statement today.

The ministry said the public could contact the Padi and Rice Control office in each state for more information on the matter.
