ALOR GAJAH, June 18 — The state government has not received any report of Haemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) disease outbreak which had resulted in the death of 340 cattle and buffaloes in Terengganu recently.

Nevertheless, State Agriculture and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasan Abdul Rahman said the state government took the matter seriously and was taking precautionary measures by controlling the entry of livestock trucks from outside of Melaka.

"Since the last two weeks we have asked the Veterinary Services Department to conduct checks on lorries transporting cattle to the state.

"In addition, we are also working with farmers here to ensure that the disease does not spread to this state,” he told reporters after launching Q-Fish sales promotion at the farmers’ market here today.

In another development, Hasan said the state government had assured that the supply of meat, including beef and chicken was sufficient for the Aidilfitri celebration.

"We have approved 150 applications for provisional licence to slaughter and by the month of Syawal the number is expected to increase to about 200 applications,” he said. — Bernama
