TUMPAT, June 16 — A baby girl with her umbilical cord still intact was found abandoned in a suitcase in front of a shop near Taman Seri Kota, Pasir Pekan here, yesterday.

Tumpat district police chief Supt Zaharudin Rasip said the baby girl was found by a health inspector in front a shop building, which was near the Pasir Pekan 1Malaysia Clinic, at about 8am.

"The baby was heard crying by a 25-year-old man who lives near the building. The man was preparing to go to work,” he said when contacted, here, yesterday.

Zaharudin said the man informed his sister about the discovery before the report was lodged.

The baby was then sent to the 1Malaysia clinic before being transferred to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) Hospital in Kota Baru, he said, adding that she was currently safe and in stable condition. — Bernama
