KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The United States Justice Department’s (DoJ) civil action to seize several assets there do not involve 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), the state investment firm said today.

It stressed that it was not in any way linked to the latest lawsuits by the DoJ or contacted by the department for information.

"1MDB notes that the civil lawsuit does not contain any appendices with documentary proof or witness statements to support the allegations made by the DOJ,” 1MDB also said in a statement.

"As previously stated, 1MDB will fully cooperate with any foreign lawful authority, subject to international protocols governing such matters and the advice of the relevant domestic lawful authorities.”

The DoJ yesterday took further action to seize approximately US$540 million in assets from various individuals in the US that it alleged was misappropriated from the Malaysian-owned 1MDB.

The DoJ last year announced a civil lawsuit seeking the forfeiture and recovery of more than US$1 billion in assets allegedly linked to 1MDB, via the country’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali today expressed frustration that he was not informed of the latest US action.

An aide to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also said local cooperation had not been sought for the lawsuits.
