KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — The e-hailing taxi service company, Grab Malaysia, has been urged to implement the ‘panic button’ application for its service for the safety of passengers by July 31 at the latest.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the matter was among the issues discussed at the special meeting with Grab Malaysia today.

"The meeting also discussed the method used in appointing GrabCar drivers and measures to prevent nasty incidents experienced by passengers.

"They expressed their commitment and willingness to implement the panic button application immediately to ensure the safety of passengers,” she said when met at the Breaking of the Fast Gathering of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) at the Malaysian Exposition and Convention Centre (MECC) here.

Nancy said the panic button application had the Global Positioning System (GPS) which was linked to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to monitor the safety of consumers.

Also present at the breaking of the fast event were the chief executive officer of SPAD, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, SPAD staff and media practitioners.

Thirty orphans, the poor and aid recipients from the Rumah Kebajikan Bakti Al-Kausar, Bandar Baru Bangi were also feted at the gathering. — Bernama
