SEPANG, June 9 ― The remand order against 32 Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) students who were detained by the police in connection with the death of a student of the university last June 1 has been extended until June 14.
However, four Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) students who were detained in connection with the case were released on police bail, lawyer Sukhdave Singh Kashmir Singh, who represented three of the Uniten students, told reporters when met at the police headquarters,
Several family members were seen in the compound waiting to meet the students.
The students, aged 20 and 21, were detained on June 2 to facilitate investigation on the death of UPNM student, navy cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, 21.
Zulfarhan Osman, a third year electrical engineering student, died of severe burn injuries to his body which was inflicted by a hot steam iron. There were also multiple bruise marks, believed to be from being severely beaten by his attackers, on the body. ― Bernama
