PETALING JAYA, June 8 ― Sadness pervaded the public gallery in the Magistrate's Court here today when an unemployed man, who threatened to beat his mother for refusing to give him money to buy drugs, expressed regret over his actions.
The accused, Raquib Aleem Noorazyze Rahmat Noorazyze Ameen, 27, told Magistrate Atiqah Abd Karim @ Husaini that he loves his mother, but failed to control his emotions at that time.
"I truly regret my actions and promise not to repeat such an act," said the accused who was not represented, when appealing for leniency.
The court sentenced him to 21 days in prison after he pleaded guilty to threatening to harm his mother, Zakiah Akmal A Razak, 60, at a house in Jalan 18/55, Taman Sri Serdang, Serdang, here at 11am on May 7.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, June 4. The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Zainal Abidin Abu Arsalnaa urged the court to impose an appropriate punishment as a lesson to the accused. ― Bernama
