KUCHING, June 7 ― The Attorney-General's Chambers must examine how its prosecution of three men over the murder of PKR's Bill Kayong resulted in their complete acquittals, said an activitst.
"We want to know whether the investigation and the prosecution were done properly within the reasonable standard,” civil movement Dayak National Congress (DNC) president Paul Raja said.
High Court judge Ravinthran Paramaguru yesterday discharged and acquitted businessman Datuk Stephen Lee, 46, Lie Chang Loon, 38 and Chin Wui Chung, 51 of abetment in the murder.
The main accused Mohamad Fitri Pauz, 30, was ordered to enter his defence.
Raja said Lee left for Australia soon after the murder and had been arrested in China before being brought back to be charged in Miri.
"Yesterday's court ruling, therefore, is totally unbelievable,” he said.
Kayong was shot dead about 8.20am on June 21, 2016 at a traffic light while he was on his way to work in Miri.
