KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Three Malaysian students who were detained by Greater Manchester Police on Monday , believed related to the bombing at Manchester Arena, were released unconditionally on the same day.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican said the three students were detained in their rented house in Banff Road, Manchester and taken to Longsight Police Station at 5.40 pm (UK time) for recording of statement and were released at 9 pm.
"I have communicated directly with the three students and would like to say that they are safe,” he said in a statement today.
According to reports, 23 people were killed in the bombing which occurred as spectators were leaving a concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande at Manchester Arena on May 22.
Reezal, who is also Umno Overseas Students Bureau chairman thanked the Malaysian High Commission in UK for their cooperation and ensuring the safety of Malaysian students over there.
‘Malaysian students who live in Manchester should stay in touch with the Malaysian High Commission, remain alert and follow the instructions of local authorities,” he added. — Bernama
