Security alert for possible militant infiltration, says Sabah top cop

KOTA KINABALU, May 25 — Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said members of the security forces are on high alert for possible infiltration of militants or residents from southern Philippines into Sabah.

He said security forces in the east coast of Sabah were already prepared for any eventuality following the declaration of martial law in Mindanao by the Philippine government.

"So far the situation is under control,” he told Bernama when contacted through WhatsApp here today.

Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines declared martial law in Mindanao following heavy clashes between Filipino government troops and militants in Mindanao's Marawi city.

Following the violence, the Philippines president who was on a visit to Russia cut short his trip to Moscow. — Bernama
