PUTRAJAYA, May 25 — A police officer with the rank of ASP is remanded for seven days from today to assist in the investigation into the case of collecting protection money from operators of illegal gambling centres and massage parlours in Melaka,
The remand order, effective until May 31, was issued by magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman.
The 51-year-old ASP, who is a department head at a district police headquarters in the state, was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday morning in Melaka.
His arrest brings to 13, the number of individuals detained including nine police officers and other police personnel in Melaka, to assist in the investigation into the corruption case.
The investigation is conducted under Section 16(a)(B) and Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. — Bernama
