KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 ― The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained yet another police officer suspected of accepting bribes and providing protection to illegal gambling dens and massage parlours around Melaka.

It is learnt that the 51-year-old suspect with the rank of Assistant Superintendent (ASP), is the CID chief of a district police headquarters in Melaka.

His arrest brings to 13 the number of those arrested.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad while confirming the arrest, refused to give any details.

"There has been an arrest ... we will provide more information later,” he told reporters when met during a walkabout for the Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement (Gerah) and the 3J ― Don't Offer, Don't Collude, Don't Settle ― campaign here yesterday.

The suspect is believed to have been brought to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya and will be remanded to facilitate investigations, similar to the earlier cases.

Since May 16, the MACC has arrested 12 individuals, including two district police chiefs in Melaka. ― Bernama
