Notorious ‘Geng Pam’ leader killed in shootout with Perak police

TAPAH, May 24 — The leader of the notorious ‘Geng Pam’ who was on the most wanted list in Perak was shot dead by police along Jalan Air Kuning-Teluk Intan here today.

Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said in the 3.30pm incident,  a team from the Perak police headquarters conducting patrols in Air Kuning had wanted to hail down the suspect’s car because it was using false number plates.

"However, the suspect sped away. Following a high speed chase the suspect’s car skidded. He got out of the car and fired three shots at police who responded by firing two shots which hit him in the chest. He died on the spot,” he told reporters at the scene.

He said police recovered a pistol with a bullet still in it and three spent shells and also three machetes from the suspect’s car.

The 40-year-old suspect, he said, was also a member of the "04’ gang and had seven previous criminal records from  2006 till 2013 involving robbery, murder and vehicle theft.

"We are now going after remnants of the gang,” he added. — Bernama
