KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Datuk Zaid Ibrahim proposed today that the federal Opposition put forth various candidates for the prime minister’s post, after yesterday’s PKR congress backed party de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PM.
The former de facto law minister, who is now a DAP member, accused PKR of arrogance, saying that the question of the PM-designate should first be discussed with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and Sabah and Sarawak parties if their help was needed to form government.
"The different candidates for Prime Minister will make the opposition more interesting.
"These candidates can debate the election issues and we can have discussions and forums about the problems in the country. This will help the people know their PM-designate better,” Zaid wrote on his blog.
PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) top leaders held placards at the PKR congress yesterday that said "Anwar PM Ke-7” (Anwar is the 7th PM), except for PPBM chairman and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who took pictures with his phone instead.
PPBM is the newest member of the Pakatan Harapan federal Opposition pact that is aiming to register as a formal coalition.
Zaid also told Pakatan Harapan to forget about coming up with a common logo or PM-designate.
"It’s not going to contribute to the unity of the parties. It will lead to bickerings, (maybe not openly ), but it will still be felt by the voters. Just agree on seat arrangement, and as for everything else, to each its own,” he said.
