BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 21 — The magistrate’s court here today rejected an application to remand JJ Poor To Rich (JJPTR) founder Johnson Lee and two of his aides.
Police led the men to the Bukit Mertajam courthouse today from the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters in Bandar Perda, The Star Online reported.
Their lawyer G. Jaya Prem told reporters that the remand application has been rejected by magistrate Diannee Ningrad Nor Azahar, adding that his clients have been cooperative with the police throughout their six-day detention.
"The public interest is better served when the police respond to the cooperation by the suspects,” he was quoted saying.
The Penang-based money game scheme is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for the offence of cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, which comes with a penalty of minimum one-year to maximum 10-year jail term, whipping and a fine.
Police arrested Lee and two of his right-hand men on Tuesday morning and it is not known if the trio will be rearrested.
