KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 ― Malaysian Christians from different denominations gathered in a special two-hour long session last night to pray for Pastor Raymond Koh abducted 50 days ago.
At the service held at Sungai Way-Subang Methodist Church (SSMC) in Petaling Jaya and attended by more than 600 people, Koh’s wife Susanna Liew delivered an emotional speech, pleading for his return and thanking Malaysians for their support.
Liew said she wanted to know the reason why her husband was abducted and who was behind it.
"After 50 days of silence, does anyone question why I am crying for answers? For justice?
"And yet, in all this despair, I am comforted by the support shown to me by so many Malaysians from all races and religions. I find strength in this beautiful nation of ours and in the power that comes from our diversity,” she said in an emailed statement.
The service was jointly organised by SSMC with the Evangelical Free Church of Malaysia. Joining them were heads of the Malaysian Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican, Methodist churches as well as senior clergymen from other evangelical churches.
Pastor Raymond Koh’s son, Jonathan, speaks at the service.
"We are still in the dark about what happened to him. This service is meant to bring much needed comfort to and support for Raymond’s family, his friends, his colleagues and also many Christians who are perplexed, even genuinely fearful because of what happened and what it means to the continued freedom of religion in this nation,” SSMC pastor Ng Swee Ming said.
Koh, 62, was abducted on February 13 and is still missing a month on. The Selangor police has formed a special taskforce to probe his case while his family has offered up to RM100,000 as reward for information that can lead to his safe return.
In a CCTV video clip circulated online, it described footage as showing the swift abduction where three black SUVs stopped Koh’s car for only 40 seconds before all vehicles were driven away.
The video also highlighted the use of two other cars and two motorcycles in the abduction, claiming that a struggle ensued and that broken glass and the car number plate of Koh’s car were later found at the scene.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has since asked the public not to speculate on the Koh’s abduction and allow the police to handle the matter.
