GEORGE TOWN, April 2 — At least 10 spots in Penang were inundated after heavy rain with strong winds struck the island since 7pm yesterday evening.
According to a Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, the areas flooded included Lorong Batu Lanchang, Jalan P Ramlee, Sungai Pinang, Jalan Taman Free School, Jalan Bukit Relau, Sungai Ara, Paya Terubong, Greenlane, Jalan Masjid Negeri, Sungai Nibong, Bukit Jambul and Farlim.
He said the flash floods caused massive traffic congestion in several major roads.
"Nonetheless, there was no report of destruction of properties or fatal accidents following the disaster,” he told reporters here today.
A Bernama check found Jalan P.Ramlee was under about 0.3 metre of water but it was learnt no evacuation centre was opened for victims affected by the flash floods. — Bernama
