GEORGE TOWN, March 28 — The Malaysian and Indonesian marine police have intensified joint efforts for enforcement of patrols in the waters of both countries, focusing on areas identified as routes of Daesh terrorists and human trafficking syndicates.

Bukit Aman Marine Police team commander Datuk Abdul Rahim Abdullah said intelligence work carried out by Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as several other nations had identified several hot routes which were the focus of the criminals.

"Among the routes identified are the waters off Langkawi to Penang; Perak to Selangor; Muar to Tanjung Piai; and Pengerang in Johor," he told reporters after the Third Meeting of the Maritime Border Patrol Coordinating Group here today.

The four-day annual meeting and training between Malaysian and Indonesian marine police began on March 26.

In a related matter, Abdul Rahim said human trafficking syndicates were known to impose a minimum payment of RM10,000 for each foreigner brought into the country and several other target countries via sea routes.

He said most of these foreigners were Indonesians and Filipinos. — Bernama
