KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Several family members of Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has lodged a police report today against a Parti Amanah Negara event that is using the late cleric’s name.

They claimed the move was an insult to Nik Aziz, who was a PAS member until his demise, whereas the event is organised by Amanah, a splinter of the Islamist party.

"We as a family feel that it is an insult towards Tuan Guru that lived steadfast with PAS’ struggle all his life,” said PAS Youth chief and Nik Aziz’s son Nik Mohamad Abduh, as quoted by HarakahDaily, referring to his father.

The police report was lodged this morning in the Kota Baru police headquarters by Nik Abduh’s brother Nik Adli, who claimed to represent his mother Datin Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak, his siblings, Nik Aziz’s siblings, and the late man’s grandchildren.

The family members said they will take legal action against the organisers if they refuse to remove Nik Aziz’s name.

"The use of Tuan Guru’s name is just an excuse to attract support to that party, although my late brother was steadfast with PAS for so long,” Nik Aziz’s brother Nik Din was quoted saying in a press conference also attended by his brother Nik Muhammad Nasim.

Amanah will hold the event called "Seminar on Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s Idea” next month, to discuss Nik Aziz’s efficiency in governing Kelantan as mentri besar for more than two decades as a PAS leader that was respected by both friends and foes.

The keynote address for the event will be given by Datuk Husam Musa, a former Kelantan executive councillor who was one of Nik Aziz’s protegés, and had left PAS for Amanah in August last year.

Nik Aziz passed away in February 2015 at his home in Pulau Melaka, weeks after he was readmitted to the hospital due to his ailing health. He was 84.

One of his sons, Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, had reportedly joined Amanah in January last year.
