KUCHING, March 14 — Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg today turned to religion in his bid to warn civil servants not to succumb to corruption.

He did so at an event where the state’s public workers took the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s integrity pledge.

"[It] is not only the MACC officers, but also the Angels of God will go after us.

"So don’t forget that,” he said in his policy speech at the gathering attended by 1,500 senior civil servants from the state and federal departments here.

He said many developing and developed countries have failed due to corrupt practices, adding that becoming wealthy was not worth it if it was achieved through corruption.

The chief minister added that he had lived modestly since becoming the assemblyman for Satok in 1981.
