IPOH, March 14 — The number of students in Perak detected to be stricken with influenza like illness (ILI) has risen to 512 as compared to the 465 cases recorded yesterday, the Perak Health Department said in a statement here today.

The spike is due to two other schools also affected by the outbreak, namely Sekolah Menengah Agama Sultan Azlan Shah in Bota involving 13 students and 26 in Sekolah Menengah Agama Darul Ridzuan di Tapah.

The number of students in Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Taayah down with ILI also increased to 230 as compared to 226 yesterday while Sekolah Menengah Abdul Rahman Talib (SMART) in Teluk Intan also saw an increase in cases, to 87 as compared to 83 yesterday.

There was no change in the number of cases involving Sekolah Kebangsaan Klebang Jaya, still at three people while Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman still had 115 cases and Sekolah Izzudin Shah and Kolej Vokasional Slim River 25 and 13 cases respectively.

Of the total, 245 students are in isolation at their school dorms, three are hospitalised and the rest under home isolation.

The statement added that all the patients were only suffering light symptoms and thus there was no need for quarantine but advised all parties to be on the alert to contain the outbreak. — Bernama
