GEORGE TOWN, March 8 — The police have detained a man to facilitate investigations into the alleged torching of the door of an entertainment centre in Bayan Baru near here last night.

The arrest followed an incident about 10pm when two men hurled bottles containing liquid believed to be petrol in the direction of the outlet.

Barat Daya police chief Supt Anuar Omar said the 31-year-old suspect was picked up at a road-shoulder in Jalan Tengah at 12.15am yesterday.

He said five men on three motorcycles went to the entertainment centre before two of them entered the premises with bottles containing petrol and hurled them while another bottle was thrown outside the premises.

He added during the incident, there were about 20 patrons at the outlet.  Anuar said initial investigations revealed that late last month, a group of men had demanded ‘protection money’ from the owner of the outlet but they were turned down. — Bernama
