Nine schools closed in Sibu due to flood

SIBU, March 3 — Nine schools in Sibu district were closed today as the routes leading to these schools were not passable after Sungai Rajang overflowed its banks since early today.

Sibu District Education officer Wong Chung Kong said the affected schools are SK Nanga Salim, SK Sungai Salim, SK Tanjung Latap, SK Nanga Assan, SK Nanga Pak, SJK(C) Yong Shing, SJK(C) Hang Kwong, SJK(C) Sam Lam and SJK(C) Kwong Kok.

"We have also asked the parents of students at SK Sungai Salim, the only boarding school affected by flood to take their children home,” he told reporters here today.

Sibu Division Disaster Relief and Management Committee Secretariat (Civil Defence) Capt Frankie John Jawan said four teams from the Sibu Civil Defence Force would continue to monitor the areas at risk of flooding and disseminate information to the public through the mass media. — Bernama
