MIRI, Feb 22 — A teenager is feared dead after she was attacked and dragged underwater by a crocodile while bathing in a river near the Rumah Panjang Japang in Marudi this evening.

Within a minute, there was no sign of Agnes Luang, 17, as her mother who was also bathing in the Sungai Tapang Peking Baram, could only watch helplessly.

Marudi police chief DSP Gabriel Risut said the terrifying incident occurred about 6.30pm.

He said the Marudi police station received a call at 7.15pm over the crocodile attack and a search party was deployed to the scene.

He said the party comprised policemen from the Marudi and Long Lama police stations, as well as the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department. — Bernama
