KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 ― Barisan Nasional (BN) has offically won the Tanjong Datu by-election, with its candidate Puan Sri Jamilah Anu obtaining a landslide majority of 6,443 votes.

The 61 year-old won 6,573 votes while Rapelson Richard Hamit of PBDS Baru and STAR's Johnny Bob Aput only obtained 130 and 108 votes respectively.

Both candidates lost their deposits.

The by-election was held following the death of Sarawak’s fifth Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem due to heart complications on January 11 at Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan.

Total turnout for the by-election was 69 per cent, with a total of 70 spoilt votes.
