TAWAU, Dec 29 — Continuous heavy rain since 3pm today caused flash floods on several roads in the downtown area.

According to Tawau Fire and Rescue Station operations chief Faisal Ahmad, thus far the department only received reports of floods in the Eastern Plaza area and uprooted trees along Jalan Yamamoto and in Tanjung Batu.

"Uprooted trees along Jalan Yamamoto have damaged two Proton Saga cars. The trees are being cleared,” he said when contacted.

"The department is always on standby for any eventuality,” he added.  Meanwhile, a check by Bernama found floods in Jalan Belia, the Sabindo area, Jalan Muhibbah and Jalan Utara.

The rain had eased by late evening in some areas around Tawau. — Bernama
