Malaysian man charged for cleaner’s murder at Tanah Merah ferry terminal

SINGAPORE, Dec 21 — A 23-year-old Malaysian man was charged in court today for the murder of a 54-year-old cleaner at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal last month.

Ahmad Muin Yaacob had allegedly killed Maimunah Awang between noon and 1pm at the ferry terminal on November 24.

Her body was found in a drain, with neck injuries and bruises on her stomach. Her gold jewellery was also reportedly missing.

Ahmad Muin will be remanded for a week for further investigations. He will return to court again on December 28.

The police said yesterday that the accused was arrested in Malaysia last Sunday after a warrant of arrest was issued by the State Courts. He was handed over to the Singapore police the following evening.

If convicted of murder, Ahmad Muin faces the death penalty. — TODAY
