Health centre employee charged with human trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — An employee of a health centre pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of trafficking in a Vietnamese woman for sexual exploitation.

Lee Cheng Wah, 47, was charged with trafficking in the Vietnamese woman, aged 32, at Yadu Health Centre, Nombor 2, Jalan Langkawi, Setapak, here at 8 pm last Nov 12.

The charge, under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, provides an imprisonment for up to 15 years, and is liable to fine, if found guilty.

Judge Azura Alwi allowed Lee bail of RM10,000 in one surety and also ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

Lee was also ordered to report himself at the nearest police station on the 30th of every month.

The court set Jan 4 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Najwa Bistamam prosecuted, while Lee was represented by lawyer Luqman Hakim Azhar. — Bernama
