GEORGE TOWN, Dec 16 ― Penang Gerakan wants the Penang state government to clarify the actual size of Seri Tanjung Pinang 2 reclamation project off Tanjung Tokong and Gurney Drive on the island state’s northeast.

Penang Gerakan representative Ooi Zhi Yi said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had in a written reply at the legislative assembly in May 2015 stated that the state planning committee has approved the reclaim 131.09 acres at Gurney Drive and 760 acres of man-made island.

"This makes a total 891.09 acres of reclamation and E&O Berhad also officially confirmed the total 891 acres reclamation in October 2015,” Ooi told a news conference at the state party headquarters here today.

He claimed there was a discrepancy when state executive councillor Lim Hock Seng said during the state legislative assembly on November 24 this year that the total size of the project is 850 acres.

Ooi cited an extract from Hock Seng’s speech stating a man-made island measuring 850-acres at E&O, and asked, "so what happened to the 41 acres?”

He wanted to know why the chief minister and E&O had announced reclamation involving 891 acres while Hock Seng had said it was 850 acres.

"He must explain why the change in size of the reclamation project especially when 41 acres would worth RM2.322 based on the fixed value of the STP at RM1300 per square feet,” he said.

Ooi accused the state government of reversing on its decisions regarding the reclamation project based on this discrepancy.

"If it was a mistake, made during such an important meeting in DUN, it would be a shame for a state exco to make a huge mistake for such a big project,” he said, using the Malay abbreviation for the state legislative assembly.
