GUA MUSANG, Dec 11 — Scores of settlers living in Chiku 7 Felda land scheme here were stranded when the main road linking the village to Jalan Kuala Krai-Gua Musang was inundated up to 1.5 metres of water last night.

Chiku 7 Felda settlement leader Che Omar Che Amat said the road became inaccessible when a river burst its banks flooding low-lying areas following five hours of heavy rain from 4pm yesterday.

"Three of the settlers’ houses were inundated with ankle-deep water but there was no evacuation following the flash floods.

"However, some villagers who went out to town to return home at night were stranded for 12 hours because the main road was submerged. The water subsided completely at 10am this morning,” he said when met at the scene today.

Paloh assemblyman Datuk Nozula Mat Diah said the road leading to the Felda land scheme was low lying and became easily flooded during heavy rain, posing a problem to settlers travelling to and from the village.

"We hope those living in the low-lying areas, particularly near the riverside are always prepared for the possibility of floods during the monsoon season,” he said. — Bernama
