KOTA BARU, Dec 8 — Tengku Mahkota Kelantan Tengku Dr Muhammad Faiz Petra, 42, was appointed as the Regent of Kelantan at a ceremony held at the Istana Kota Lama, here today.

He will assume the position throughout the duration the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V performs the duty as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong beginning Dec 13 for a period of five years.

Sultan Muhammad V presented the instrument of appointment as the Regent of Kelantan to his younger brother, after Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob announced his appointment to the post.

The Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan later took the oath of office and signed the oath.

Kota Baru High Court Judicial Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Bache and Syarie Chief Judge Datuk Daud Mohamad were witnesses at the ceremony.

Also present at the ceremony held at 6.30pm were Tengku Laksamana Kelantan Tengku Abdul Halim Sultan Ibrahim, Tengku Temenggong Kelantan Datuk Tengku Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz and Kelantan State Secretary Datuk Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat. — Bernama
