Five residents of Taman Cheras Hartamas charged with obstructing public officers

KAJANG, Dec 6 — Five residents of Taman Cheras Hartamas here pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court today to the charge of obstructing public officers from performing their duties.

Liong Chee Chew, 45, Yap Ah Tai, 67, Lam Guan Loong, 34, Yim Ah Ming, 52, and Tan Teck Chye, 44, made the plea after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Refngah.

They were alleged to have committed the offence by refusing to disperse from the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electrical tower project site at Jalan Cheras Hartamas 1, Taman Cheras Hartamas, Bukit Sungai Puteh Forest Reserve, Hulu Langat, at 10.30 am on Aug 9, when instructed by the police.

They were jointly charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years or fine, or both, if convicted.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM3,000 in one surety each and set Jan 25 next year for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Natasha Chin Le Jy prosecuted, while all the accused were represented by lawyer Dinesh Muthal. — Bernama
