KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — The cooperation between Umno and PAS to stand on the same stage yesterday on the humanitarian issue plaguing the Rohingya people in Myanmar showcased political maturity by both divides, by putting aside ideological differences to focus on issues involving fellow Muslims.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the cooperation was based on humanitarian issues geared towards beneficial outcome.
"It gives a message to the people that we have to be matured in politics,” he said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
The Solidarity for Rohingyas gathering at the Titiwangsa Stadium here yesterday was attended by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, the leaders of Umno and PAS as well as more than 20,000 Rohingyas residing in Malaysia.
The peaceful solidarity rally was organised to express the concern of Malaysians at the atrocities committed against the Rohingyas in Myanmar, especially in the Rohingya village in Rakhine. — Bernama
