PETALING JAYA, Nov 28 — A contract worker claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to pouring hot water over his wife’s head yesterday.
M. Anbalagan, 29, allegedly committed the offence on K. Rehwathy, 28, a laundry worker, at Blok D-15-02, PPR Jalan Pekaka, 8/1, Kota Damansara here, at 12.30pm on November 27.
The charge is under Section 326 of the Penal Code which carries maximum imprisonment of 20 years with a fine or whipping, and read with Section 326A of the same Code, which provides for twice the length of the original sentence, on conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hasim did not propose bail as the offence under the charge is unbailable.
However, counsel A. Nadarajan urged the court to grant bail as the accused had to take care of four children aged between four and 11 years old.
Judge Manira Mohd Noor set RM8,000 as bail with one surety and December 29 for remention. — Bernama
