BUKIT GANTANG, Nov 25 — The water supply problem faced by more than 2,000 residents of several villages around here is expected to be solved by next year with the completion of the water tank in Kampung Permatang Raja.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the water tank, costing RM4 million, could save 2.5 million litres of water.

"Expected to be completed in June 2017, the tank will receive water supply from a plant at Kampung Air Terjun waterfall about 14 kilometres from here.

"Construction of the tank is to improve water supply to make it more stable and secure,” he told reporters after the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the tank in Kampung Permatang Raja near here today.

According to Zambry the residents in the area required 3.45 million litres of water per day and that number was expected to increase to 5 million in 2030.

With the construction of the tank, it was also expected to cut losses of treated water (NRW) due to burst pipes, he said. — Bernama
