Cops nab piling rig driver over fatal freak accident

SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — A piling rig driver was detained at 7 pm yesterday over the death of a couple after the rig fell on their car on Friday. 

North Klang district police chief, ACP Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the site and the safety and health division supervisors of the project were also detained. 

The three men, aged between 30 and 40 years, were remanded for one day after they turned up to give their statements on the incident, at the district police headquarters, near here, yesterday evening.

"The rig driver sustained a broken leg in the mishap and only turned up at the police station yesterday after he was allowed to leave the hospital. 

"All three will be released today on police bail,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Mohd Yusoff said the case was being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death due to negligence. 

In the incident at about 12.30pm, the victims, Abd Rahim Abd Rahman, 51, and his wife Nurhayati Rosli, 46, were killed after the car they were in were hit by a falling piling rig when travelling on a road in Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang.

Subsequently, the couple’s eldest son, Mohd Zahidin Abd Rahim was reported as saying that he would take legal action against the developer if there were elements of negligence in the incident. — Bernama
