KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — Malaysiakini has lodged a police report against "Red Shirts” movement leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos’s threat yesterday to "tear down” part of its office this Saturday.

According to the news portal, its general manager K Manohar lodged the report at the Petaling Jaya police district headquarters earlier today.

"I am making this report and humbly request the police to provide necessary personnel to protect our staff and neighbouring offices and maintain crowd control to prevent any untoward incidents from happening,” Manohar said as quoted by Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Jamal led some 50 members from Red Shirts to Malaysiakini’s office in the Petaling Jaya to demand explanation over claims that the news portal received funding from US magnate George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF).

In the meeting with three editors, Jamal threatened to tear down half of the office’s building tomorrow if he did not get a response by then.

Despite the portal’s editors explaining of its source of funding and admitting to receiving some funds from OSF, Jamal said he still planned to hold a rally outside the office tomorrow noon.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had earlier today told Malaysiakini to lodge a report against Jamal if the news portal took seriously his threat to tear down its building.

Khalid said Jamal has previously made many similar remarks, but did not actually act on his threats.
