KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 ― Activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan is under investigation over a speech allegedly made in Johor during Bersih 2.0’s nationwide tour.

Ambiga, who is also the former co-chair of the polls reform group, said the investigation under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) was over an alleged speech on October 1 at Gelang Patah, Johor.

"I was investigated at 2pm yesterday by the Johor police who came down to take my statement,” she told Malay Mail Online when contacted today.

She said the investigation lasting for about half an hour was carried out at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, adding that she was represented by lawyer Raul Lee Bhaskaran.

Under Section 9 (5), conviction for the offence of failing to provide a 10-day advance notice of an assembly to the office in charge of the relevant police district is punishable with a maximum fine of RM10,000.

Bersih 2.0 is slated to hold the fifth edition of its street protest on November 19 after a nationwide convoy tour for a month, with its five demands being for clean elections, a clean government, strengthening parliamentary democracy, the right to dissent, and the empowering of Sabah and Sarawak.
