SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — About 200 members from Umno Youth threw empty buckets and water bottles at the Selangor state administrative building here to protest against water problems in the state.
The main entrance gate to the Selangor State Secretariat Building (SSAS) was shut to prevent the group led by Umno Youth exco member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah from marching in from the neighboring Bangunan Perangsang.
Armand said that the protest was to express anger at the water woes and at Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, whom Armand labelled as being unfair.
"We are present here today not to show the Malay, Chinese or Indian uprising, but as the people of Selangor, who want ‘keadilan’ (justice), not Parti Keadilan,” said Armand.
"Azmin is not fair to the people of Selangor. We don't want officers from this skink lizard. We want Azmin and PKR officer to come here. We can't shower, and watch the people of Selangor in difficulty. Azmin is a skink lizard," he told a press conference near the entrance gate.
The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant (LRA) was closed more than five times this year due to contamination, with the latest taking place on October 23 due to pollution at Sungai Semenyih, suspected to be sourced from the industrial area in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
This caused massive water supply disruptions in Hulu Klang, Semenyih and Serdang.
Azmin previously claimed the contamination to be "sabotage” by political rivals Barisan Nasional and Umno, after the problem left thousands of households in the state without supply.
The state government has lodged a police report over the matter, but Azmin has also been urged to support his allegation with evidence.
