BINTULU, Oct 23 ― Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has requested the state government to increase the intake of Dayak in the state's civil service and goverment-linked companies (GLCs).

Its president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said presently, the number of Dayak in the civil service and GLCs was not reflecting the diversity of race in Sarawak.

Masing, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said the current problem of imbalance in the civil service should not be placed on the shoulders of Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He said Adenan inherited the problem and believed the chief minister would address the matter as soon as possible.

"We will assist you (Adenan),” he said in his speech at the opening of the PRS Fourth Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) by Adenan, here, today.

On the party, he praised the senior leaders for making way for the junior leaders to climb up the hierarchy.       

Even for himself, Masing said, with age catching up he needed to have his own succession plan to ensure a stable party that had been in existence for 12 years now.

"I'm already 67 years old and 33 years being an elected representative,” he said, adding that he could not be the party president forever.

For the record, PRS is the second largest party in Sarawak after Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), with 11 state assemblymen and six members of Parliament.

It has a total of 31,230 members statewide. ― Bernama
