KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — PAS has no qualms against Budget 2017, party vice-president Idris Ahmad said today.

He said the Islamist opposition party was satisfied with the allocation given by Putrajaya, especially for rural areas.

"We are happy with some things and unhappy with some others.

"The allocations for the development of rural areas are what we were most pleased about," he told reporters in Parliament when met after the tabling of the federal budget.

Idris however said PAS was not happy with the slashes in funds for higher education, which "cannot be comprised".

Commenting on the walkout staged by Opposition MPs today, he said the Islamist party had not followed suit as there were other means to reject the budget.

"There is a proper way to protest through Parliament. Whether we accept or reject, there is a procedure to it," Idris explained.

PAS MPs remained in the Dewan Rakyat today while other Opposition MPs left in protest against Najib after he made a remark about former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and them.

Some of the Opposition lawmakers had held placards reading "Who is MO1 (Malaysian Official 1)", referring to the United States Department of Justice’s investigation into assets purchased allegedly with money from state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
