Memories of my late husband will keep me going, says Mastura

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid who took her oath as the new Member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar in Parliament today hopes to carry out her duties with the same inspiration and drive shown by her late husband.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Mastura, 55, won the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat with a majority of 6,969 votes in a by-election following the death of her husband, Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sarawak.

The Lincoln’s Inn graduate who practiced as a lawyer for six years before deciding to help her husband, has four children.

"Although I am sitting in the same place where my husband had sat, my current seat is in the same row and that gives me the intuition that he is watching over me and always by my side, all the more when I was taking my oath,” she told reporters when met at the Parliament Lobby, here today.

Mastura won the Kuala Kangsar seat by a 6,969 vote majority on June 18.

Meanwhile, Sungai Besar Member of Parliament Budiman Mohd Zohdi also took his oath today.

Budiman, 44, won the Sungai Besar Parliamentary seat by a 9,191 vote majority on June 18, following the death of former Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon who was also killed in the same helicopter accident as Khair-il on May 5. — Bernama
