KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The Selangor government aims to have 60 per cent of its population commute based on its state public transportation masterplan unveiled today, higher than the federal government’s target.
In comparison, Putrajaya which hopes to cut road usage by 60 per cent, has set 40 per cent public transport usage for the Klang Valley under the Land Public Transport Commission’s (SPAD) masterplan.
Selangor’s masterplan involves 12 new route proposals, mostly extensions of existing LRT, BRT and MRT routes.
Among the state's key proposals is to construct two new freight routes under KTM, one from Serendah to Pulau Indah and another from KLIA to Senawang.
"The problem with the current KTM route is that it shares the route with the freight trains. This reduces the passenger capacity," transportation planner Goh Bok Yen told a media briefing here.
"With the new freight route, the freight trains can go directly to the ports," Goh, from MAG Technical and Development Consultants Malaysia, said.
The new proposed routes avoid entering the major commercial areas in Klang Valley.
The following are the 12 proposals mapped by the state government in its masterplan:
P1- KTM freight line (North) from Serendah to Pulau Indah
P2- KTM freight line (South) from KLIA to Senawang
P3- MRT Circle Line 1 around KL, and sections of Ampang and Petaling Jaya
P4- LRT extension from Gombak to Kepong
P5- LRT Bukit Lanjan from Bandar Utama to Kepong
P6- LRT Circle Line 2 North from Rawang to Shah Alam
P7- LRT Circle Line 2 South Shah Alam to Putrajaya
P8- MRT Extension West from Sungai Buloh to West Coast (Expressway) Development
P9- BRT extension from USJ (Subang Jaya North) to Puchong
P10- PRT within Petaling Jaya, including Bandar Utama and Taman Tun Dr Ismail
P11- LRT extension from Putra Heights to connect to LRT Circle Line
P12- LRT Circle Line 3 from Klang to Nilai
