KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Muslim leaders have heavy responsibilities in uniting the people as stated in the Al-Quran.
The Prime Minister said Muslims were brothers and because of that, he tried to be friendly with the party, where the majority of its members were Muslims, even though they might have differing political ideologies.
"Unfortunately, there is a senior leader who complicates efforts towards uniting the people.
"During his administration, the Malay Muslims in this country were divided into three parties or groups,” he said in an audio delivery on his official blog, www.najibrazak.com.
Najib said after retiring, the leader had divided Malay Muslims into five by forming a new party.
Najib said the leader had the habit of being quarrelsome, a hypocrite, defaming people in one instance and then befriending them back.
"This is the reason why it is so difficult for Muslims in this country to be brothers.
"He says harsh words to me but he himself is not spared from allegations such as being called ‘kepala perompak’ (chief of robbers), but everyone knows that I’m not the first person that he ill-treated,” he said.
The Prime Minister said many who had been his victims were later picked back for the sake of politics.
"With humility I urge all of us to stop the fight. Let us be brothers again and form a strong and successful community,” he said. — Bernama
