KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 ― Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded the older generation of politicians to watch their actions so that they don't become irrelevant to young voters.

The deputy prime minister said the younger generation of Malaysians are less nostalgic compared to previous generations and are interested in the future and what they can benefit from it.

"They (young voters) don't want to be nostalgic anymore. They want what is new for them, what is in their future and what is that they deserve to gain.

"They want something solid in front of their eyes. They want to leave nostalgia to memories,” he told the crowd of former lawmakers at an event today.

Zahid added that  former politicians and leaders can still be relevant to the younger generation if they knew how to adapt themselves to the "current reality.”

"We should not think that we are not relevant anymore. We need to adapt ourselves with the current reality.

"We don't want the Generation Y, Generation Z and Generation Alpha to be those who forget their roots. There should be a balance. It impossible for the new to exist without the old,” he explained.

The Bagan Datoh MP also took a veiled swipe at several veteran leaders who are trying to cause problems for the current leadership with their statements and actions, but didn't mention any names.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has come under fire off late from several former leaders including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Mahathir alongside former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently formed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), and are working with opposition parties against BN.
