KTM Intercity cargo train derails in Johor, train service affected in the south

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — The KTM Intercity service is experiencing interruptions in the southern sector after a cargo train derailed at KM738.25, between Kulai and Kempas Baru, this afternoon.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) in a statement today said the incident occurred at 3.35pm when the cargo train was heading from Padang Rengas, Perak to Gelang Patah, Johor.

"Eleven out of 50 coaches filled with cement went off the tracks, blocking the passage,” the statement said.

According to KTMB, the train services affected were Shuttle No 41 from Tampin to Johor Bahru and Shuttle No 43 from Gemas to Johor Baru. Both trains will end their journeys at the Kluang Station.

The passengers of both trains have to continue the trip to Johor Baru by bus, it said.

Passengers using Shuttle No 44 from Johor Baru to Gemas will have to take bus to Kluang station and continue the journey to Gemas via train, while passengers on Shuttle No 45 from Gemas to Johor Baru have to take the train up to Kluang station, and proceed to Johor Baru by bus.

The statement said passengers of the Eastern Express Train No 26 from Johor Baru to Tumpat will have to take the bus to Kluang Station, before boarding the train to Tumpat.

Meanwhile, Eastern Express Train No 27 passengers travelling from Tumpat to Johor Baru will take the train up to Kluang before boarding another train to Johor Baru.
