KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 ― Malaysia is the best place to drive in all of Southeast Asia, a study by popular navigation app Waze has revealed.

According to its second annual "Driver Satisfaction Index,” Malaysia ranked 23rd out of the 38 countries countries sampled, which also included Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, local news portal The Star Online reported.

Singapore, Indonesia and the Phi­lippines were 32nd, 34th and 37th, respectively.

Out of the 235 cities and towns surveyed, Central Malacca ranked 94 and was deemed the best Malaysian city to drive in.

Other cities surveyed include Kuala Terengganu at the 97th spot, Kota Baru at the 124th spot, Kuching at the 131st spot, Kuala Lumpur at the 137th spot, Johor Baru at the 140th spot and Kota Kinabalu at the 164th spot, among others.

The Star Online reported that the survey sampled from 20,000 active users on a monthly bases and collated the data according to six factors namely traffic density, road quality and infrastructure, "availability of driver services,” socioeconomics and "Wazeyness” which is defined as "happiness and thankfulness of Waze users.”

"Generally, we (Malaysians) are not really satisfied. Overall the results show that Malaysians are right in the middle of the ranking,” Waze Malaysia sales manager Edward Ling Sieak Meeng said about Malaysians’ experience on the roads.

He added that Malaysians were among the most satisfied with road qualities however were mostly unhappy about the "availability of driver services” like parking facilities or petrol stations.
