KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 ― Malindo Air passengers with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 may no longer check in or power on the particular smartphone that has been recalled over faulty batteries that are prone to spontaneous combustion and explosions.
The airline issued the notice today on its Facebook page, joining AirAsia, AirAsia X, MAS and MASWings in prohibiting the use of the device on their planes.
The US' Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) last week issued a directive to all passengers to power off their Note 7s and avoid charging the smartphone while aboard any aircraft due to the fire risk.
Several US airlines have also reportedly taken to confiscating the smartphone for the duration of flights to prevent passengers from surreptitiously operating or charging them on their planes.
Samsung has recalled all Note 7s globally after it discovered that the batteries on some models were prone to igniting, and has urged all owners to turn off the device and return them immediately to retailers.
Reports continue to emerge of users being burned by the exploding batteries, however, as some owners continue operating their Note 7s despite Samsung's urgings otherwise.
